SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN FOR THE TEN MINUTE PLAYHOUSE Local playwrights, actors, & directors sought for two-night showcase November 6 & 7, 2011
In response to the overwhelming success of May’s showcase of 18 new plays by local playwrights, New Works Nashville is proud to announce the return of The Ten Minute Playhouse – with an exciting new element.
Set for November 6 and 7 at the Darkhorse Theater located at 4610 Charlotte Avenue in Nashville, The Ten Minute Playhouse will again feature brand new ten-minute plays by Middle Tennessee playwrights. In addition, two scripts read at the May event have been chosen for production and staging in New Works Nashville’s ongoing commitment to nurturing emerging playwrights in Music City.
“This was a logical evolution of our inaugural Ten Minute Playhouse,” says Nate Eppler, one of the curators of the event. “New voices are vital to the life of local theatre and we think offering writers the opportunity to see their ten-minute play potentially go from a staged reading to a realized production is one exciting way to amplify those voices.”
The two plays to be featured alongside the readings will be announced with the full slate of new plays in October.
Submissions of new ten-minute plays may be made through 5pm Friday, October 7, 2011 by emailing a PDF attachment to newworksnashville@gmail.com. Full submission guidelines and requirements are posted online at TenMinutePlayhouse.weebly.com. Volunteer actors and directors interested in participating in The Ten Minute Playhouse are invited to visit the website for additional information and email New Works Nashville for further details.
Audiences in attendance will not only get to see two nights of new plays, but will also be able to give the playwrights feedback following the readings in sessions moderated by Tennessee Rep Artistic Associate Lauren Shouse.
"Lauren’s experience handling new plays and working with playwrights through the creative process is invaluable,” says co-curator Chris Bosen. “Whether it’s her work with the Ingram New Works Festival or her direction of Long Way Down, she clearly understands how to bring new works to fruition.”
Performances of The Ten Minute Playhouse are November 6 and 7, 2011, at the Darkhorse Theater at 4610 Charlotte Avenue. All shows start at 7:30, doors open at 7:00. Tickets are $5 at the door. For more information please visit TenMinutePlayhouse.com
